Poem: Our Heaven

By Jalili B. Jimiyu

I close my eyes to the world never to open them again
But instead of darkness I am meet with a soothing light
And a fog that recedes to a vast lush garden
From the fading mist a silhouette familiarly walks toward me
My heart speeds it's pace as she smiles saying "Hello my love"
I shake tears flooding my face, she embraces me with loving tears of her own
She speaks in a whisper into my ear "Welcome to Our Heaven"
I open my eyes wide and realize that I'm not dreaming

Holding my hand she takes me on our tour
Point out our dreams of love we wished for each other
Our home together to the left, a beach to the right
A simple seating area to watch the sun rise and set
We go through nirvana together so I can learn my way around
To the left is freedom and to the right peace
I nod my head at both but attention is with my queen
I hold her close as we sit telling her how much I missed her
Kissing me sweetly she lets me know she missed me too
But her face changes and she begins to look sad
I wonder what can be sad in heaven, and she breaks the news

"My warrior it's not yet your time I just wanted to let you know that I love you
And I planted this garden for us. But I want you to enjoy the time you have left
And keep being strong. Your daughter needs her father and you mother needs her son.
Also the world needs brave words and a willingness to fight.
Sorry Mo L'aime Au (my sweetness) there is still work to be done"

I awaken again to the light from my window and tears streaming down my face
A dream so vivid and I'm forced back again to this place
But I feel she is watching and I look up to the sky smiling
Know that I just need to do my job and not to worry
Because I will see the Isokoza Ndaniya Yangu Giza (Light In My Darkness)
In Our heaven as soon as it's my time

For my wife Celeste "Ayasha" Golden love you always.
